Scholar | Innovator | Strategist

I am a Hazel C. Youngberg Trustees Distinguished Professor at The Ohio State University and a scholar of critical race and gender studies. My research is invested in social change and community engagement. Through scholarship, teaching, leadership, and training I work to help make the world a better place for my children and future generations.

Research

I am an interdisciplinary scholar who is trained in multiple disciplines—Classical Studies, English literature, Black Studies, and Law. I enjoy using my training in critical race, gender, and legal studies to collaborate on grants and projects with colleagues in engineering, agriculture, education, public health, medicine, and law.

Community Engagement

While research fulfills a lifelong intellectual fascination, identifying ways to apply that research and make it beneficial to communities beyond the university is energizing and brings me great pleasure.

Creative Work

Working from the premise that work should be fun, I insist upon allowing creativity to dictate how I do what I do in both a literal and theoretical sense.

Grant Work

Research and engagement grants and awards are the foundation for much of the work I do as a researcher and engaged scholar.

Consulting

I thoroughly enjoy consulting and serving as a thought partner to help institutions and organizations solve problems and embrace excellence.

“Know thyself.”
